And It will sell at $599-699 with a 32GB flash drive… Here's why they had to lower the iPhone's price tag :-)

By Jove, I sense that on that matter you can only be right! The MacBook Touch is going to be a major hit -- a mobile AppleTV, e-book reader, boombox, typewriter, electronic briefcase/shoebox, and then some… all-in-one -- I'll remember I read it here first! :-)
Excellent entry.

(And that's why the recent new iMac's wireless keyboard was so tiny and flat: it was designed from the beginning to also be the future MacBook Touch's keyboard! --It will be embedded in the device's back and will be flippable to be used as necessary, or it could just be sold as an add-on for serious typers on the go.)

I agree that this would be a natural direction to move. The "feel" of using a multitouch screen for reading would kill any other method. I also think that, in many circles, PDFs have become ubiquitous. For me and other scientists and physicians, reading PDFs is what we do all day, every day. And color is absolutely needed (sorry e-ink!). Battery life only need be a day, as I need to sleep too...

A thin, solid-state, multitouch "reader" that can also surf the web and work with a wireless keyboard (or not) will be the next evolution of the laptop.

Excellent blog. Your vision of an iTablet would be a boon to older readers who are becoming vision impaired. The ability to not only flip 'pages', but also to magnify would be of a godsend. The Mac OS already has such provisions in a seperate systems preference.

... and I'd buy the second. Web 2.0 means we get to own 2.0 computers (or more) and many times we just want something as light as possible to compliment our full-time workstations. Apple have proved they can put all the electronics we need into a palm sized form factor - so a light, thin touch screen that's big enough for reading, browsing and writing is exactly what we need for our second machine. Add in, in fact, slot in Apple's beautiful super-thin aluminium Bluetooth keyboard ( http://www.apple.com/keyboard/ ) and you have everything any writer/reader/web surfer/email addict/TV or photo viewer would need.

I believe Apple's design expertise, along with their superior operating system, integrated software and world-leading interface know-how would succeed where others have failed. Hell, I'd buy two - I know my wife would use one more than I would.
